Information about VIGI C120 Residual Current Circuit Breaker Class AC 4P 30mA Instantaneous

The Schneider Electric Acti9 Vigi C120 A9N18569 residual current block is an additional residual current protection device designed to be combined with C120 range circuit breakers. It features 4 poles, a rated current of 125 A, 30 mA sensitivity, AC class residual current protection and instantaneous tripping, providing protection against earth leakage currents in low-voltage electrical installations.

When coupled with a compatible C120 circuit breaker, it provides in the same assembly residual current protection, overload protection and short-circuit protection. The Vigi block specifically detects current leakage, while the associated thermal-magnetic breaker provides overcurrent protection functions.

High-sensitivity 30 mA residual current protection

The Schneider Electric A9N18569 has a residual current sensitivity IΔn of 30 mA. This sensitivity level is intended to protect people against the risks arising from earth leakage currents within the application conditions established by Schneider Electric and the relevant regulations.

When a differential current reaching the tripping threshold is detected, the block causes the circuit breaker it is associated with to disconnect.

Instantaneous residual current tripping

This version of the Vigi C120 incorporates instantaneous tripping, with no intentional delay. The device operates when it detects a differential leakage above the set threshold, providing a fast response to the fault.

Due to its characteristics, it is suitable for circuits where high-sensitivity residual current protection is required without the time delay used in selective residual current devices.

AC class residual current protection

The A9N18569 belongs to class AC. This type of protection is designed to detect sinusoidal alternating residual currents.

The choice between an AC type residual current device, A type or superimmunized versions should be made taking into account the characteristics of the connected loads and the regulatory requirements of the installation.

Rated current of 125 A

The residual current block has a rated current In of 125 A, so it is designed to operate with C120 devices within the compatible configurations indicated by Schneider Electric.

It is important to correctly select both the Vigi block and the associated circuit breaker so that the rated current and the rest of the electrical characteristics are suitable for the protected circuit.

4-pole configuration

Reference A9N18569 has 4 poles, making it especially suitable for three-phase installations with neutral where the active conductors of the circuit need to be monitored together.

The 4-pole configuration makes it easy to integrate into three-phase distribution boards equipped with compatible Schneider Electric C120 circuit breakers.

Voltage-independent tripping technology

Schneider Electric specifies for this block a residual current tripping technology independent of voltage. The operation of the residual current protection does not depend on an auxiliary electronic supply to detect the differential fault.

This feature helps ensure the residual current protection function under the operating conditions intended by the manufacturer.

Integration with C120 circuit breakers

The Vigi C120 A9N18569 is not a standalone thermal-magnetic breaker. It is an additional residual current module that must be installed together with a compatible C120 circuit breaker.

Once both devices are combined, the assembly provides:

  • Protection against earth leakage: provided by the Vigi block.
  • Protection against overloads: provided by the C120 circuit breaker.
  • Protection against short circuits: provided by the C120 circuit breaker.
  • Isolation and switching: according to the characteristics of the associated breaker.

This modular design makes it possible to adapt residual current protection to the characteristics of the thermal-magnetic breaker selected for each circuit.

35 mm DIN rail mounting

The residual current block is designed for clip-on mounting on a symmetrical 35 mm DIN rail, making installation in modular electrical panels easier.

Electrical connection to the circuit breaker is made using screws following Schneider Electric mounting instructions. The manufacturer also includes wiring guidance to help ensure correct connection.

Visual residual current trip indicator

The Vigi C120 features a fault indication by means of a red band on the reset handle. This signal makes it possible to identify that the opening of the assembly was related to the operation of the residual current protection.

This function makes diagnosis and maintenance easier, as it allows certain operating states of the device to be visually distinguished.

Residual current test button

The device includes a test button that allows periodic checking of the correct operation of the residual current mechanism.

The test should be carried out following Schneider Electric recommendations and the maintenance procedures established for the electrical installation.

Operating voltage and dielectric characteristics

Schneider Electric’s technical data sheet specifies for this reference a rated operational voltage of 400 to 415 V AC at 50/60 Hz.

Its main insulation characteristics include:

  • Rated insulation voltage Ui: 500 V AC.
  • Rated impulse withstand voltage Uimp: 6 kV.
  • Mains frequency: 50/60 Hz.

These features allow its use in low-voltage distribution boards within the conditions indicated by the manufacturer.

Terminals for rigid and flexible conductors

The Vigi C120 block uses tunnel terminals prepared for different conductor cross-sections.

  • Rigid conductors: 1 to 50 mm².
  • Flexible conductors: 1 to 35 mm².
  • Strip length: 15 mm.
  • Tightening torque: 3.5 Nm.

Connections must be made respecting the permitted cross-sections and the specified tightening torque to ensure a safe and durable electrical connection.

IP20 protection

The Schneider Electric A9N18569 has an IP20 protection rating under its specified installation conditions. The terminals are designed to reduce the risk of accidental contact when the device is correctly installed.

As a panel component, it must be installed inside an enclosure suitable for the environment and the degree of protection required by the project.

High mechanical durability

Schneider Electric declares a mechanical durability of up to 20,000 cycles for the Vigi C120, providing a robust solution for professional electrical installations.

The device is designed to operate at an ambient temperature between -5 and 60 °C, with pollution degree 3 according to the manufacturer’s specifications.

Applicable standards

The residual current block is designed in accordance with the standards applicable to this type of protection device, including:

  • EN 61009.
  • IEC/EN 61009-2-1.

Schneider Electric also specifies the suitability of the assembly for the corresponding isolation functions when used within the configurations intended by the manufacturer.
